Private Equity

Our private equity practice is the foundation of our firm.

Managing several institutional funds and billions of dollars, we continue to make private equity investments large and small – from start-ups and early-stage to buyouts. We currently make new investments with internal capital outside of our funds, which provides endless flexibility in terms of deal size, deal structure, industry, etc.  We are entrepreneurs at heart and look for exciting opportunities and great partnerships.

    We look for buyout opportunities that align with our research, industry expertise, and network.
  • Growth and early-stage investments partnering with founders
    We seek to partner with founders of high-growth businesses to help them manage rapid growth, build out their teams, and execute on strategies to scale.
  • Constructed start-ups
    We partner with experienced operators and industry leaders to start businesses from scratch. We provide the teams we back with both capital and support services.

Avathon

Platform
In 2015, Sterling partnered with Strada Education Network to establish Avathon Capital. With a separate investment team and shared operations, Avathon represents an expansion of Sterling’s activity set into single industry investment strategies. Avathon invests in companies in the education and workforce management markets.

SPQI

Quantitative Investments​ Platform
Founded in 2018, SPQI provides a trading platform that combines expertise in trading technology, data science, and operational proficiencies allowing traders and trading managers to focus on their core competency, trading. Since 2019, SPQI oversees a managed futures strategy called the “Select Program.”
